A competitive sailor at age 9, fishing, surfing, and living on a boat during summers at the Jersey Shore, Eric Krause considers Cape May to be his hometown.
While attending the State University of New York Maritime College, he served as a founding member and Vice President of the NY Maritime College Sailing Club which provided sailing lessons to the cadets.
Graduating in January 1985 with a B.S. in Meteorology and Oceanography, Eric earned a U.S. Third Mates license for all oceans for vessels of unlimited tonnage and accepted a commission as an officer in the United States Navy Reserve. He served for sixteen years in a combination of active duty and select reservist.
In 1987 Eric began his career in the international container shipping industry with Sea-Land Inc. in Elizabeth NJ. In 2000 he began working for the German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd where he has managed various trade lanes coordinating commercial interests with marine operational issues.
Eric has been a resident of Shark River Hills NJ since 1990 where he and his wife Mary raised a daughter and a son. Both children attended sailing camps at FOBH. Erin became captain of her high school sailing team at the Marine Academy of Science and Technology as well as the school’s sailing master in their NJROTC program. Zach attended the NJROTC Leadership and Sailing Academy in Newport RI and, after becoming Cadet Commanding Officer for the Neptune High School NJROTC unit, was accepted to the United States Naval Academy. He is currently on the academy’s Varsity Offshore Racing Team and is racing the academy’s premier boats with recent victories in the Marion to Bermuda Race, and the Annapolis to Newport Race.
Eric has been an FOBH Trustee since 2014.
